Prevention of urinary infections
Urinary infections are a very prevalent health problem in women, the elderly, and children, and are almost always caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli. When an infection occurs, the bacteria multiply and adhere (through small filaments) to the walls of the urinary tract.
The most common treatments are the use of antibiotics, however, due to the increased resistance of bacteria the risk of recurrent urinary infections has increased significantly.
Unlike antibiotics, bacteria do not develop resistance to Cranberry and can therefore be used whenever necessary, either as a treatment or as a complement to drug therapies, and do not harm the intestinal flora (where most of our immune system is concentrated)
The cranberry contains a unique type of phenolic compound, a type of proanthocyanidins (PAC), effective in preventing bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract wall and therefore, helps in the prevention and treatment of urinary infections.
